2/13/18: Iris has now been with us for almost eight months and continues to be the sweetest thing. She had another surgery to get some mammary lumps removed that were non-cancerous. Poor thing has been through so much since she has been here, but she continues to keep her silly and sweet personality. She is looking and feeling great now and has no more medical issues going on! She listens well, is very calm, and doesn’t jump or roughhouse at all. She loves to nap and snuggle and just be with her people. She doesn’t react at all to seeing other dogs in public so she has no problem going for walks or riding in the car and seeing other dogs. She just doesn’t like them to get in her personal bubble. She is very treat motivated and learns quickly. She could go to a training class (if the dogs all stay on leash to avoid her bubble) and I think she would be great at it. She loooves treats and food and to please her people. Iris is truly a great dog, one of my favorites, and she deserves a great home.

9/29/17: It’s hard to explain how a picture can make you want to help, but as soon as I saw the picture of Iris online I knew we needed to help her. She came from an out of state pound where she ended up giving birth to seven puppies. She and her puppies had nowhere to go and it was heartbreaking seeing them all in the pound. After a few days of organizing transportation (including two flights from Pilots N Paws), they were here! A short time after arriving Iris became very sick and needed to go to the emergency vet for surgery. She had a horrible infection in her uterus and needed immediate surgery to save her life. She ended up staying at the vet for two days because of mild complications with the surgery, but she pulled through and everything was good again. Until she went to the vet again for a routine exam and it was discovered she was heartworm positive. Poor Iris has been through so much already and now this. She has been going through heartworm treatment for two months and has one more month left. The treatment is getting injections once a month to kill the heartworms. She has been doing very well with treatment. She needs to be on crate rest while she goes through the treatment which is not a big deal for her since she is already very mellow and laid back.

Iris is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. We have fostered over 70 dogs and there’s something about Iris that has touched my heart. She’s only about 4 years old, but she has an old soul. She is very mellow and relaxed. She loves to hang out with her people and is not hyper or needy at all. She listens very well and is treat motivated so teaching her new things has been easy. Iris needs to go to a home with no other pets though. Some dogs just want to be the only pet and that is what Iris wants for her best life. She deserves all of the attention to herself. She does well on walks and if she sees other dogs she does not try and get to them. She just ignores them. She loves going for car rides and will sit in the back calmly and look out the window.

Unfortunately, Iris does have some separation anxiety so she needs to go to a home with no shared walls. She has a special crate she stays in when we are not home and she does very well in it, but she does bark and whine when we leave. The crate is an extra strong metal crate that she cannot break out of. When she was in a weaker crate she was able to break out of it and chewed the wood trim of our door and window. Because of this, it is recommended she not be left out when no one is home. When we are home, she is super easy, does not bark or whine at all, and just wants to hang out with you on the couch or outside in the sunshine.

Iris is truly a great dog and I am so thankful we were able to help her. If you have a home with no pets and are looking for an amazing dog, Iris is it.
